In this episode, we talk establishing a leader development program within your organization. Whether you are a startup or well established company, people are the competitive advantage. Establishing a leader development program can transform your team and create significant gains in your organization.

Key Takeaways from the episode:

A leader development program isn't just for subordinates, it is for all levels. As a company grows and new leadership tiers are established, the senior leaders also have to adjust their leadership styles.

When selecting new leaders, look for coachability and willingness to learn. Who will be open to feedback as they continue to grow in their leadership role?

Leadership development programs should start with an individual assessment to gain that look at where someone is and what the strengths/weaknesses are of their personality.

Leveraging cohorts of similar levels or experience is helpful to share learning and go through a program together.

A program can consist of group learning sessions, individual coaching, and manager 1:1s.

When developing a program, look for customization. A copy/paste, pre-done model will not be nearly as effective as one that takes into account your business needs, culture, and aligns to where you are going as a team.

Coaching should be a good personality fit with the coachee. If rolling out, it may be helpful to contact several coaches so there are options for your team. There must also be an established confidentiality so the coachee can feel comfortable sharing.

Leaders at all levels must be bought-in to a leadership development program. If it is not supported, modeled, and talked about at all levels, then it will not be nearly as successful (if at all).
